Maggie Johnson
(Pictured left)

Executive Director - mjohnson@shakespearecda.org

Maggie is a long-time lover and patron of the arts. Her late husband, Dr. Rodney Johnson, introduced her to various cultural experiences, and together they enjoyed orchestral concerts, opera, theater, and art museums worldwide. Blessed to have homeschooled their two children, Maggie was able to travel extensively with her family on trips celebrating history, art, music, and faith. Maggie and Rod’s children grew up in a musical household, studying and competing in the classical music sphere; Matthew and Alexandra both attended McGill University in Quebec, earning degrees in Organ Performance and Classical Voice, respectively.

With her children away at school, Maggie volunteered at a local hospice house and then returned to work in the medical field, putting her BS in Health Information Administration to use at Kootenai Health. She has also organized and participated in fundraisers and events for schools and her Church over the past several years.

Maggie is excited to be a part of the team that strives to bring high-caliber performances of Shakespeare to the Coeur d’Alene community. Through these performances and upcoming educational opportunities, she desires to enhance the natural beauty of this region as well as engage and enlighten people of all ages and backgrounds.

Mary T. Bowers
(Pictured right)

Artistic/Educational Director - mtbowers@shakespearecda.org

A lifetime student of Shakespeare, Artistic and Educational Director, Mary T. Bowers believes that the genius of Shakespeare must be experienced in performance to be truly appreciated and understood. A 1980 production of Twelfth Night by the Royal Shakespeare Company changed Mary’s life. John Woodvine’s brilliant Malvolio had Mary laughing to the point of tears, and this experience made her realize that the possibilities with Shakespeare are endless. In the coming years, Mary looks forward to sharing some new possibilities, new visions with North Idaho audiences, and perhaps elicit reactions like the one she experienced in London all those years ago.

Mary fulfilled a lifelong dream when she attended the prestigious Shakespeare Institute (University of Birmingham, UK) in Stratford Upon Avon. She had the time of her life studying with some of the world’s finest scholars and attending the theater at every opportunity. Mary received her MA in Shakespeare Studies and then returned home to her teaching career with a renewed desire to share her literary and theatrical passions. She held Shakespeare performance camps for high schoolers, and elementary students, and directed an annual Shakespeare Festival. Over a decades-long year teaching career, Mary has introduced thousands of students, young and old, to the delights of reading, watching, and performing the works of the Bard of Avon.

When she’s not scanning blank verse, Mary enjoys spending time with Buckley the Black Lab, writing, cheering on her favorite football teams, and traveling. She’s scary good at trivia games, and was a Jeopardy champion - “I’ll take Shakespeare for 1000, Alex!”

Brando Boniver

Artistic Consultant - brando@shakespearecda.org

Brando started acting in New York City. He made his Shakespeare debut as Sebastian in a 2009 production of Twelfth Night at the West End Theatre, while attending the Lee Strasberg Conservatory program.

In his final semester, he booked his first principal role in the feature film, We Made This Movie, directed by Rob Burnett. But his love for theater only grew, bringing him back to the UK, on a whim, where he once was in school when his family lived overseas.

In 2011, he completed the Shakespeare Intensive program at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art, turning an early curiosity into a lifelong fascination. Brando has since appeared in dozens of classical and contemporary productions in repertory and on summer stages in New York, London, and Europe, in titles such as Romeo and Juliet, Two Gentleman of Verona, Hamlet, The Winter’s Tale, King John and The Taming of the Shrew. He was also frequently involved in production, including set design, fight choreography, and eventually stage management and assistant directing.

Brando is also a voice actor, applying his skills in the worlds of gaming and animation, post-production and narration. In his free time, he practices martial arts and spends a lot of time in nature. As a student of the arts and the great outdoors, Brando is thrilled at the prospect of Shakespeare in Coeur D'Alene!
